Can you remember the last time you saw our reporters call women ‘ladies’? I myself cannot remember when anyone described me a ‘a lady’, simply because our society is becoming less sensitive to women as humans.

we can do it! womenWe have become the major source of controversies. We want to be weak, and we also want to be strong. We want men to be sensitive to our weaknesses, and we also want to conquer the world. We are still looking for the best balance of strength and weaknesses, but we also don’t like when reporters in the popular mass media discuss us, women, in unpleasant terms. This is probably why so many women are conquering the mass media industry. In this piece of writing, I want to look once again at the most outstanding female figures in the world of mass media.

Certainly, women can never forget the role which Oprah Winfrey played in the development of the mass media for women. With Oprah’s help, women became women, so beautiful, so tender, and so vulnerable! Oprah’s talk shows often became a revelation for millions of women in America and beyond. We are so grateful to this wonderful and powerful woman for everything she did to defend our femininity and equality. Oprah Winfrey has become so powerful, that they say she helped Barack Obama to get to the White House. Whatever the truth, Oprah remains the most influential figure in the cruel world of mass media. Her power is not in the amount of money she earns every year but in the influence she has on the international audience. With Oprah, thousands of men have finally realized that women can achieve something significant in this life. All they need is constant support, encouragement, and empowerment in their way to happiness.

Another powerful woman in the world of mass media is Diane Sawyer. She has been extremely popular for more than forty years. Her Good Morning, America has beaten all records of popularity. She has at least 10 million committed viewers, who keep her at the top of the pedestal. Her power is not difficult to see: she was lucky to interview Barack Obama and other influential figures in the United States.

Then come Ellen DeGeneres and her talk show. Of course, she is not even close to Oprah and her popularity, but her shows remain extremely popular among American viewers, and her earnings keep her in the highest mass media ranks.

What do these women have to say to all of us? I think they send a simple message to women. We have everything we need to realize our dreams. We can be powerful and feminine. We are women, and this word is everything. We know the pain and power of success. We know what it takes to be a woman, and they know it, too. For many of us, mass media women represent the desired ideal of vulnerability and defense against the major troubles of life.
