Do you think that cooking is not one of the main woman’s obligations? Do you believe that men should assume the role of a home cooker? These are just some of the many questions asked by modern women.

womanWomen are in business. Women seek for self-realization opportunities. Women want to earn money and be independent. They have no time for cooking. Families become smaller. Ladies focus on their individual needs. With new technologies and new gender roles, they no longer imagine themselves spending their days in front of their ovens. They need freedom! And you need it, too.

However, is it that bad being a home cooker? How come that the roles of a home cooker and an attractive business woman are no longer compatible? Who is to blame for the fact that you no longer want to cook? While you are trying to answer these questions, we will lead you through a brief historical journey to the basics of home cooking.

Looking back to the beginning of the 20th century, it is clear that women were extremely busy doing their home work at that time. Cooking took most of women’s home time, and many of them would spend as many as 44 hours every week cooking for their families. However, we should not forget that only one fifth woman worked at that time. Apart from cooking, women also did gardening, especially in the rural areas. Remember, that the average size of a household was much larger than it is today, as there were approximately 5 members in even the small family. That was both a problem and a relief for many women, since they had to care for all their family members and, simultaneously, could get some help from the other members of the household. So, cooking for women is not a problem but simply an important element of our cultural history. Cooking is a historical role women had to play in our families.

No, we do not say that all women have to cook! We do not say that women who do not cook are not women!! Moreover, we say that women who have stopped cooking did so not because they suddenly decided to claim their rights for independence and individual decision making!! Rather, we see how the role of women in the developed society changes. Women have stopped cooking simply because they are too busy to do it. We have food industries and fast foods that help us to feel healthy and happy with what we eat, without spending hours in the kitchen. With the food industry, we have got more time for ourselves, our education and improvement. We can easily go to a restaurant and enjoy the things cooked by an outstanding male chef. However, you still cannot deny that the best food is that which is cooked at home, no matter whether the cooker is you or your husband. Forget about genders, and simply enjoy the outstanding taste of your home food!
