So you’ve been doing great with your dieting and weight loss plan thus far, but the Holidays are approaching, and for many, dieting goes out the door. Does this scenario sound familiar?

You start off the week with the best intentions of keeping to your diet so that you look great for those Holiday parties, however by mid week you notice that your resolve is weakening, and by the end of the week, your motivation is completely thrown out the window! This happens for many people this time of year, and chances are that you try motivating yourself, therefore allowing the cycle to continue.
Sticking to your guns is sometimes the most complicated thing to do.

The holidays bring lots of food and festivities and it can sometimes be hard to say no. It might even seem like the universe is out to get you as you try to avoid chocolates, cookies, cakes, turkeys, and other heavy and sweet foods that will certainly throw your diet off course. While it will take a lot of willpower on your behalf, sticking to a diet this time of year is not impossible.

Portion Control
During the holidays there are too many temptations to simply consider avoiding them all. Therefore, instead of trying to do the difficult task and avoid it, you should consider eating whatever you want, with some control. The reason it is best to get some of what you want is because completely avoiding it could cause you to want it even more which is very stressful. So if you want that slice of ham, get it. Just remember to make it one slice (thin slice) and add veggies to balance it out just a bit. While it may not be as much as you would like to have, it seems to work much better than not eating it at all.

Drink Before You Eat
A great trick that lots of women try during the holidays is filling up a bit before you eat. Drinking something beneficial like water before you go to a party where there will be lots of foods is a great idea. Your stomach will begin to fill up, therefore causing you to want less food when its time to eat. Don’t overdo it however, or you’ll be so full on water you won’t be able to enjoy yourself. Just a glass or two before will do the trick.

One Plate Rule
No matter how much food is offered, no matter how much leftovers are there, making a one plate rule is important. You want to try and stick as close to the guidelines of your diet as possible. Therefore, the first time around, you should make sure that you’ve gotten everything that you want to eat so there is no need to go back up for seconds or thirds. Chances are you don’t fill up on seconds at home, therefore a party should be no different.

Other suggestions would be to consider taking someone with you for support. If you have a friend or family member who is also dieting two heads can certainly be much better than one. Whatever tips and tricks you try, remember to enjoy yourself. If you become to stressed out over sticking with your diet, you will certainly gain weight from the stress alone.
