So you’ve fallen in love while away on a trip, off at college, or from an internet dating site.

The trouble is, you’re miles away from your significant other which means you’re going to have to work twice as hard to make your relationship work. While the statistics for lasting long distance relationships are low, you will find that there are lots of people who have been successful at keeping their love alive. If you’re looking to keep your long distance flame burning, consider these tips below.

Talk as Much as Possible
While everyday might be a hurdle, you want to try to talk to your significant other as much as you can. By staying in touch with one another, it lets both parties know that the love and interest are still there. If you can’t always afford to talk on the phone, you can always do things such as text, chat, or even video chat with one another. There are so many ways to communicate that you should be able to find one or two ways to speak, even if it’s just a five minute conversation.

Do Things Together
You might think this is a silly notion, but you are able to do things together without being in each other’s presence. Consider doing things such as watching the same television shows, cooking the same meals, or even reading the same book. It allows the relationship to thrive and also gives you things to talk about.

Avoid Temptation
Yes, we all have emotional and physical needs when in a relationship, however, when faced with a long distance relationship, this may not happen as often as you’d like. This is why you should stay away from places in which you might be tempted to do something you’ll regret later.

Talk About Your Future Together
Talks about the future certainly reassure a person that you’re with them for the long haul. You should often try to talk with them about the future as they will begin to gain confidence that the relationship will last despite the obstacles.

Material Objects
Surprise your significant other with a gift or two. Just because you can’t physically give it to them, doesn’t mean you can’t have something mailed to them. By giving them small tokens of your love they have something to always remember you by. It also makes them feel good and comfortable in the relationship, which of course increases the chances of success.

Make the Most of Your Time
When you are able to spend time with your loved one, make sure that you don’t waste it. Treasure your time together by doing some things that you both like to do. By spending quality time together such as a nice dinner or a picnic you are able to bond and grow closer together. Not to mention it gives you something to hold onto until the next time you’re together.

It is possible for you to have a successful long distance relationship; however, you’re going to have to both want to work at it on the daily basis. Trust and determination will take you far in your relationship. By following these tips above you are sure to have a relationship that will last a lifetime.
