You see two young and extremely beautiful women fight. On TV or in cinema, these fights look extremely sexy and self-revealing...

Staged fights bring challenging emotions to viewers. Most males would love to see a similar fight in reality. Unfortunately, real fights among women are not as attractive as they seem. Violent attacks on women are getting more common. Women fight to prove their point. They fight to express their emotions. Women fight for a variety of reasons, but that they fight much more than they used to fight a decade ago is undeniable.

Official statistics have historically underestimated the scope of female violence. Many girls seek to dominate other girls and women. Many others use violence to re-establish themselves in a female community. It is interesting that mothers often play a pivotal role in the development of girls’ violent intentions. However, the sight of two girls or women fighting with each other can sometimes become a shocking revelation.

Most society members believe that women represent a weaker sex. Thus, they must behave in ways that show their humiliation and weakness. As a result, when a woman fights, especially in public spaces, she actually brings an important social norm. The society does not expect women to fight! Yet, it is no longer surprising to see a young lady beat another girl or even a boy! Many teenage girls spend their years in prison for violent acts against other women and men. The statistical data are gruesome: in the past five years, the number of women convicted for violent offenses has nearly doubled.

Inner-city girls confess that their lives are impossible without fights. It’s all about territory ambitions and power things, when girls from different districts or estates come together in a violent fight against one another. Many girls engage in verbal sparring. Many others use knives and bottles to hurt others. More often than not, girls fight because they see violence at home. They may be suffering from partner abuse or witness parental violence. Contrary to previous beliefs, female violence is neither spontaneous nor subconscious. Most women engage in violent acts consciously to achieve an explicit goal.

Yet, we all know that violence will hardly ever become a norm among women. Violence contradicts female nature. Women do deserve to have equal rights with men, but that does not mean they must be violent. One of the main questions is why society does not do anything to stop female violence and takes it for granted. Another question is why society encourages female violence as something exotic and attractive. There is nothing normal in a woman who kills her girl- or boyfriend and goes to prison, leaving her children on state support. Women fight not because they are violent. They fight because, very often, they have no other way to defend themselves. I think that, as so many women become violent, it is not an individual but collective issue. Everything is in our hands. We are wise and mature. We can choose the best way without applying to violence. We can tell other women that they are powerful, even if they never fight.
